Holy Orders

All of the baptised have a Vocation. That is a calling by God to a particular role within the Church. These vocations can take many years to discern and understand and, in many cases, God may be calling us into a vocation we had never considered. Some men are called by God and the Church to the Ministry of Permanent Deacon or Priest. This involves a long period of preparation and training as the individual, and the Church itself, discern the true nature of the candidates vocation and suitability for the role.In Ordination the candidate receives the gift of the Holy Spirit for the office of Deacon, priest or Bishop. Only a Deacon can be ordained as a priest and only a priest can be ordained as a bishop. The ordination of a bishop requires the consent of the Pope as a sign of the unity of the Church under the leadership of the Pope, the Bishop of Rome.
