Holy Communion

At the Last Supper Jesus took bread and told his followers ‘This is my Body’ and after they had eaten
supper he took wine and said ‘this is my Blood’ and told them to do this in his memory. We do this
every time we celebrate Mass. When the priest takes the bread and wine, which are offered as
symbolic of the many gifts we receive from God, he says the words of consecration and the bread
and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. Christ is truly present in the sacrament of the
Eucharist which is why it is treated with such great reverence.
Clergy and authorised lay ministers take Holy Communion to the sick and housebound, those living
in Care Homes and those in hospital.
Children in year 4 at school can participate in the First Holy Communion programme and make their first confession and their first Holy Communion. Application forms are made online below. The program starts in September each year. Likewise if your child is unbaptised please arrange for a baptism by completing the application form online as soon as possible during the school holiday.
There will be a parents/carers meeting before the sessions start. If your child was baptised outside of this parish please bring the baptism certificate to this meeting if you have not already provided it to us.
If you child was baptised outside of the Catholic church you need to speak to us BEFORE the programme starts so that they can be received into the Church at a Sunday mass during the school holiday.
